Living my beliefs.
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great, make you feel that you too can become great." - MT.

I met George.

Today was truly an amazing day for me. I woke up at 6:30 and left to Discovery Elementary to volunteer and take photos of our Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast day. When I got there it was only 7 and I was allowed to eat before helping out since nobody was there yet, except for one other person. I noticed the other person sitting at the far end of the room away from the commotion so I decided to sit with him and hopefully have a nice chat with him. I introduced myself to him and our half our of getting to know each other and sharing our life story began. Of course, he has about 60-65 years on me. Much more to tell than myself.

This is George. He grew up in LA and was drafted into the military his second year of college then graduated from UCLA in 1940. Began teaching history for nearly 20-25 years before becoming a Vice Principal. Apparently, he disliked the job because of all the dirty work as VP, especially in LA. A few years after that, he became a Principal for a few more years. Moved to San Marcos with his wife after have two children (who are now 61 and 64) about 21 years ago. Ever since then, he’s been traveling with his wife every year to different countries. And, he’s attended the pancake breakfast every year!

So after that, I told him a little bit about myself, my school life, my hobbies, my ambitions, my dreams, etc. Then, he noticed my camera and asked me if I liked photography. Of course I do! I expressed to him how much I love taking photos and filming and he offered to give me his Polaroid and Pentax camera since he doesn’t use them anymore. I was completed shocked with his offer. Just 30 minutes ago, I sat down in front of him and shook his hand for the first time and now, he’s giving me something that is very special to him. So then he drove home, picked up his cameras, drove back, and gave them to me. I still can’t believe that I met someone as amazing as he was. The fact that I had never met him before until this day and he decides to gift me his cameras… makes me speechless.

My day started of very, very well. These kinds of things only happen at Kiwanis Pancake Breakfasts.
